The Jamboree crisis, they already knew.
How will the Republic of Korea deal with this.
Since participants from all over the world participated in the 25th World Scout Jamboree Competition, the
Jamboree's official SNS has been criticized for dissatisfaction with poor management, especially the anger
of parents who sent their children to Korea. Parents complained that their showers and toilets were too
dirty for usage and that they should end that hell immediately for their children.
In the wake of this anger, the state urgently sent personnel to field support, including staff from
departments unrelated to the Jamboree. Some employees are known to have returned their vacations
and were sent to provide on-site support, but the employees who were deployed themselves were also
confused. Where they arrived provided poor treatment such as accommodation and meals and arbitrary
changes in the business trip period.
A promotional video posted on the Jamboree's
official SNS were full of frustrated comments, and a
foreigner said, "Stop posting data unrelated to the
current heat wave and sincerely apologize," asking
for prompt action for the safety of the participants.
In fact, the reason why people were so angry was not
only because of the bad condition of this Jamboree
competition, but because there were no actions
taken even though it had already been reported
about of the poor facilities and conditions.
It has been confirmed that problems such as heat waves, mosquitoes, pests, and excrement that disrupted
the Jamboree competition had been reported since the preparation of the competition, which was revealed
in a detailed operation plan formulation service report
prepared by the Korea Tourism Development Institute in
December 2021.
However, the Jamboree competition was held without
solving the problems with correct measures suggested
at the time, and as the reported concerns became a
reality, the world's attention is focused on the handling of
the Jamboree crisis in Korea. In response, Korea should
provide active compensation and support based on a
sense of responsibility, and take lessons from this failure
and thoroughly prepare for future international events.
