Seoul National University (SNU) has long been synonymous with academic
excellence and a beacon of inspiration for students across Korea. To
uncover what sets SNU apart as a revered institution, we interviewed three
exceptional students who have achieved what many aspire to: Yeokyoung
Lim from the Department of Spanish Language and Literature, Boah Han
from the Department of Anthropology, and Minwoo Hwang from the
Department of English Education. Through this article, we aim to share
their unique stories, offering readers valuable insights, encouragement, and
practical advice for their own academic journeys.
University Life: Lessons and Insights
Yeokyoung Lim:
Q. What are three benefits of attending Seoul National University, which all high school
students in Korea envy?
A. The best advantage is that I can feel proud of myself. Of course, you can't judge everything based
on educational background. However, I believe that being admitted to SNU is an indicator that
acknowledges I have worked harder than others. The second advantage is that I can take high-
quality classes. At SNU, classes are taught by professors who hold high positions in their respective
fields, so students gain a lot from them. Lastly, because the university is large and receives a good
reputation socially, many opportunities such as exchanges, double majors, academic activities,
and scholarships are offered by the school and external institutions.
Boah Han:
Q. What is the pride of Seoul National University?
A. I think it’s a wide campus. It‘s very difficult to move around a lecture room, but with the large
space, there are many various facilities that help you fully focus on your school life. Particularly, the
library facilities are amazing. I want you to visit there later.
Minwoo Hwang:
Q. What are some activities you can confidently say, "You can learn this if you join the
English Education Department at Seoul National University!"?
A. There are many interesting activities such as educational service and band, but I think the fact that
I can talk about the topic of interest (education) with people who have worked hard to come here
is an activity that I have a lot to learn. Well, our department has a baking club, which is perfect for
learning as a hobby.
