with critics arguing that it leads to tokenism, where individuals from marginalized backgrounds are only
superficially included for the sake of optics. Striking a balance between genuine representation and
avoiding tokenism is a delicate challenge in the pursuit of a truly inclusive political landscape.
Racial and ethnic discrimination intersects with other forms of marginalization, such as gender,
socioeconomic status, and sexuality, creating complex layers of inequality. Addressing these issues requires
policymakers to adopt an intersectional approach, acknowledging that different groups face unique
challenges and experiences. Controversies often arise when developing policies that balance the needs
and aspirations of various marginalized communities, especially when there are competing interests or
limited resources.
Racial and ethnic discrimination in politics is a multifaceted issue that demands sustained attention,
dialogue, and action. By acknowledging historical injustices, promoting fair representation, engaging in
intersectional policy-making, challenging divisive campaign strategies, and working towards systemic
change, societies can strive for a more inclusive and equitable political landscape. Combating racial and
ethnic discrimination is not only a matter of social justice but also crucial for upholding the fundamental
principles of democracy and human rights.
