                 Rest in peace, Chester Bennington

2017 was a miserable year for rock music listeners. Chester Bennington, lead singer for the band Linkin
Park, was found dead in the age of 41 at his home in Palos Verdes Estates, California. What made fans
more shocked is that he committed suicide by hanging.
His housekeeper discovered his body around 9:00 a.m. on July 20, 2017. Member Mike Shinoda con-
firmed Chester’s death on Twitter, writing, “Shocked and heartbroken, but it’s true. An official statement
will come out as soon as we have one.” Then the next day, Brian Elias, the chief of operations for the of-
fice of the medical examiner-coroner, confirmed that a half-empty bottle of alcohol was found at the
scene, but no other drugs were found.
Some said that his suicide was kind of nonsense because he steadily worked as a singer shortly before
his death. He filmed an episode of Carpool Karaoke six days before his death. And this video aired on
                October 12, 2017 as a memorial.
When this news was reported in Korea, his name was ranked on daily hot keyword of Naver, the most
preferred Korean portal site among Koreans. This case apparently shows how popular Linkin Park is,
not only in Korea but internationally. A host of people cherished the memory of him through social network
such as Facebook and Twitter. They posted R.I.P, an abbreviation of “Rest In Peace”. Also celebrities
made tributes. Chester’s former bandmates from Dead By Sunrise and Grey Daze united to perform a
tribute for Bennington during a concert on September 2 in Las Vegas.
Linkin Park released their debut album "Hybrid Theory" in 2000, and won the Grammy Award for best
performance in 2002 with the single, "Crolling". They also won two Grammy awards in 2006, including
the Grammy Award for Best Rap and Song Collaboration, for "Numb," a hand-crafted version of rapper
                Jay-Z.
Linkin Park released their sixth full album "The Hunting" last year. But at last, their great journey has
                stopped.
