A big step against the pandemic begins
WHO will be given stronger authority and responsibility.
The COVID-19 outbreak, which was a global health challenge, killed more than 7 million
citizens from 2020 to 2023.
The lesson the international community has learned from this enormous damage is very
clear.
In order to effectively respond to the pandemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) must
be given stronger authority and responsibility.
The WHO, comprised of 194 member countries, declared COVID-19 a Public Health
Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) in January 2020 and made various efforts to
overcome it.
South Korea also has joined the executive board of WHO, which has allowed it play a leading
role in resolving global health challenges.
