The essential role of journalism
The basic role of journalism is to provide citizens with important information to help them make
free and independent decisions. In particular, in a modern society overflowing with information,
readers' information literacy is essential. The media must perform its original journalistic
functions, including agenda setting, conflict mediation, and information delivery. To this end, it is
important for the media to maintain a free and independent position.
Improve readers’ information literacy
Beyond simply consuming information, readers must develop the habit of evaluating the source
and reliability of the information, comparing various perspectives, and cross-checking. For
example, it is necessary to compare and analyze reports from various media outlets on a specific
incident, check direct sources, and refer to expert opinions. Through this, readers can have
better information literacy and make independent decisions without being swayed by incorrect
information.
In the AI era, the role of the media is becoming more important, and readers' information
literacy skills are essential. The media must provide important information about society from an
independent and fair position, and readers must have the ability to critically analyze and cross-
verify it. Through this, we can reduce information distortion and create a society that supports free
and independent decision-making.
