clothing and gear), produce eco-friendly clothing and donate their revenue to various
charities, and implements a ‘Worn Wear’
project that suggests we have to wear and keep our clothes for a long time. However, the
more people consume, the more revenue the company got. Despite their financial interest,
they focus on the impact that their actions will have on the environment. Also, Ryan Gellert,
who is CEO of Patagonia, said “Patagonia is the company which has responsibility to every
effect we affect.”
But isn’t this harmful to corporations? In fact, the conclusion is that ESG management has
positive effects to corporations. Companies can construct a good brand image that leads
to benefits in the long term. The steady income from the consumers who are loyal to the
company is also advantageous to the company. As the relationship of producer-consumer
gets closer, the consumer can purchase easily from a reliable source, and the producer
can demonstrate their innovative management attempts due to steady income from their
loyal consumer. Thus, ESG management is mutual beneficial for corporations and society
including consumers.
