Additionally, the victim was surrounded by the perpetrator's family, threatened, and sworn at by
Miryang police. The Miryang police took on the sex crime case, ignoring all procedures to respect
the victim. Society and the police, who were supposed to protect the victims, inflicted secondary
harm on the victims.
The Supreme Court ruling in the Miryang gang rape case surprised everyone. Ten people were
prosecuted, 20 were sent to the Juvenile Department, and the prosecution said they had no right
to indict 13. There are 44 students who directly committed harm, and 119 including indirect
perpetrators, but none of these criminals have been punished for the Miryang group sex crime.
Also, no one received a criminal record from the Miryang group sex crime. The ruling protected
the perpetrators not the victim. There was no law for victims' human rights anywhere. The victims
lived in fear every day due to the aftereffects, but the perpetrators lived proudly and got along with
other people in society.
The victim had a sexual crime and still had a hard time living even after
becoming an adult. The victim stayed home all day because of people’s
attention. The victim lived in anxiety every day through no fault of her
own. Her lawyer said the victim still cannot forget the trauma of the
case and struggles every day. It was also reported that the victim tried
to run away from home several times due to shock at the time and was
unable to participate in social activities. There was no law for the victims
of the case, but there was also no system to help the victims when they
entered society.
Many movies were also produced about the Miryang gang rape case.
This is a movie called Han Gong-ju. The actor who played the role of
the victim in Han Gong-ju shed tears while refering to the victim. And
he expressed his sincerity, saying that he believed this incident should
never be forgotten. No matter how many movies about assault cases are
made, crime does not disappear. Who will protect the victims?
