The recently revised abortion law is shaking the United States. This is because the U.S.
Supreme Court approved Mississippi's law banning all-abortions after 15 weeks. This is
the first abortion law in 50 years, and it's causing a lot of controversy. Now many men, as
well as women, across the United States are joining protest that claims the constitutional
amendment is wrong.
About the history
Until the early 1970s, most states in America banned abortion even in case of unwanted
pregnancy. In 1969, Norma McCovey wanted an abortion but lived in Texas where abortion
was illegal. At that time her lawyers, Sarah Weddington and Linda Coffee, filed a lawsuit
against attorney Henry Wade, claiming that Texas’s abortion law is unconstitutional.
This case is called Roe v. Wade for short. In conclusion, the Supreme Court issued a 7-2
decision in McCovey’s favor. This led to the repeal of all U.S. state and federal laws that
prohibit or restrict abortion. This ruling was one of the most controversial in U.S. history
until now. The recently changed abortion law is the first change in 50 years since Roe v.
Wade.
