Overview of Current Chinese Game Ban
As we all know, China has always been strict on the Internet,
and the game industry is one of its targets. It banned data centers
abroad, as well as servers. To maintain their services, companies
did some construction work.
But, even with this effort, what the Chinese government thinks
of their game is the highest priority. The companies should do
away with the government's censorship policy. Once the company does all the steps, it can finally publish a
game.
One issue why companies cannot just ignore the Chinese government's request is the market size of China.
The highest number of people on Earth, one of the two largest markets in the world, etc. But even that market
can be disgraced by the government.
Tencent's New Facial Recognition System that will come with their Games
In China, children — even teenagers —
cannot legally play games after 10 PM.
Video game addiction prevention is a
law that has evolved for many years but
recently hit an important milestone.
June 1st, 2021, every game in the country
is required to add a new authentication
system that checks a player’s Chinese
national identity (including their age) to
help block underage players from going
past limits, all in the name of preventing
video game addiction.
