On August 28th, 2020 Abe stated that he was resigning as prime minister and ended his 7 years in
power.

The assassination of Abe: Why?

Abe was shot by a 41-year-old man named Yamagami
Tetsuya during his street campaign for the House of Councilors
Election in 2022. While Abe was having his speech, Yamagami

shot Abe with his homemade shotgun. And Abe died even
though he went to the hospital as fast as possible. To know

why Yamagami assassinated Abe, you need to know about a
cult named Family Federation for World Peace and Unification
which is deeply related to this incident. The Family Federation for World Peace and Unification is a new

religion in South Korea founded by Sun Myung Moon and is widely known as the Unification Church,
its former name. Yamagami Tetsuya’s family was broken by this cult and many tragedies happened in

Yamagami’s life. Yamagami decided to take vengeance to the cult by killing Sun Myung Moon. But he
found it difficult and changed his target to Abe Shinzo who was somehow related to this cult.
Abe was one of the most famous Asian leaders, his death will cause a big social impact.
