February 24th in 2022, Russia launched a missile attack and sent ground forces into Kiev, the capital of
Ukraine. Since October 2021, Russia has heightened armed conflict crisis by reinforcing troops on the border.
The attack was executed by Putin’s urgent declaration that Russia will begin military operations in Ukraine.
Putin said that if other country meddles in the movement of Russia, Russia will immediately make a reprisal.
One of the big reasons why Russia attack Ukraine is an expansion of the power of NATO.
On February 28, 2022, Volodymyr Zelensky Ukraine president signed on application for admission to the
EU. He demanded that Ukraine, which had been invaded by Russia, is approved immediately through special
procedures. Experts analyzed that joining the EU is very important to Ukraine because it is recognized as
an independent country by Western powers. In other words, for Ukraine, the accession to the EU means
maintaining sovereignty. Ukraine's accession in the EU means liberation from Russia, experts said, as Ukraine's
weak sovereignty is the ultimate cause of the war between Ukraine and Russia.
There are various reactions against the demand of Ukraine. Polish President Anjay Duda said, "We should not
give even a centimeter of Ukraine's territory to Russia," stressing active support for Ukraine to be approved
EU accession. However, major countries such as Germany and France said that joining the EU is not a matter
to be decided in a short period of time, and that Ukraine cannot be given preferential treatment. German Prime
