Bulgaria also announced that they could postpone implementing the coal reduction policy to avoid relying on
Russian gas. Accordingly, there are some warnings against the retreat of the decarbonization policy. The U.N.
Secretary-General warned that it was wrong to return to fossil fuels due to the war in Ukraine. He said ignoring
fossil fuel reduction policies can lead to long term dependence on fossil fuels, causing serious environmental
problems.
Many asserted solutions such as decarbonization policies should be replaced because they cause environmental
problems. The new plan is to work on securing another sustainable energy alternative to natural gas. The way
to realize this is to actively accept EU plans that recover fossil fuels and actively support infrastructure projects
such as renewable and hydrogen facilities. For example, green gas is considered as a substitute for natural
gas. Green gas has the same quality as natural gas, so there is the advantage that existing natural gas pipes can
be used as they are. Additionally, biomass which is a material for green gas is not difficult to supply in that it
can be obtained from nature. Also, several countries
have announced that they will accelerate the long
term carbon neutrality transition and improve the
reduction problem in natural gas use caused by the
suspension of gas imports by Russian and Ukrainian
war, considering measures such as port liquefied natural gas tunnels to ease dependence on gas.
This is a measure to replace natural gas imports by expanding LNG imports in consideration of disruptions to
imports such as Russian gas.
