The reason why Iranian Women burned their Hijabs
The scarf, known as the hijab, is a kind of hood used by Islamic women to cover their heads and necks and is a
symbol of women's human rights situation in Iran. Iran is the only Islamic country that has legally enforced the
wearing of hijab.
Protests wearing hijab have intensified in Iran. The protests were first held in Tehran, the capital of Iran, and
now are spread throughout Iran.
The circumstances of the incident are as follows. In Iran it was triggered by a suspicious death after 22-year-
old woman Mahsa Amini was arrested by moral police for not wearing her hijab properly. The demonstration,
which began with a demand to find out the truth about the incident, gradually led to dissatisfaction with the
Iranian state system and spread to anti-government demonstrations. For this reason, it is sometimes called the
Mahsa Amini protest after Mahsa Amini, the trigger of the protest, and the "Hijab protest" and "Anti-Hijab
protest" in South Korea.
