Ask the Department representative
What the department representative is supposed to do
They deal with an important matter when there is a school event. They work for their department and our
school with the student council. They conduct a campaign about the safe and happy school life. They attend
the students' general meeting twice a year and discuss about the issue that the student council presents. They
tell their opinion to make our school better. The most important task for the department representative is the
athletic meet. They decide on major issues on behalf of the department at events such as athletic competitions.
They recruit and list people to participate in basketball, soccer, dodgeball, etc. They proceed with the process of
selecting, voting, deciding, and presenting candidates. They also participate in the cheering squad and directly
participate in the department activities.
Difficulties as a representative
The representatives have to undertake the responsibility when their school event has a problem. They have
the burden as well as the sense of responsibility. They have to spend their personal time to the task of the
department representative such as conference participation, making a list, or seeking for a solution of the school
problems. They should adjust the proportion of studying and the department representative task. Also, the
department representatives are not authorized to participate in a student council meeting at lunchtime because
they are not eligible to be a member of the student council. When deciding on major issues, they played as big
a role as the members of the student council, but it was difficult because they did not have that much authority.
The representative of the Japanese department hopes that, next year, the student council meeting will be
improved so that department representatives can participate in it, so they can arrange events more smoothly.

Since the Japanese department is a quiet department, he hopes that active and bright students will become
representatives of the Japanese department.

She wants to be a representative of the Chinese language department who can humbly accept the rebuke and
use it as an opportunity to develop. She also wants a student who is proud of her department and respects other
students to become a department representative. She thinks that to become a department head, one needs to be
able to control the ratio between one’s studies and the department head.
