always nervous and apprehensive. That feeling cmae again and again. However, after I came here, I can’t see
people hurrying. Everyone is so relaxed. From a Korean view, everything would be slow. Actually, I would not yet
adapted to this system where document processing takes at least one month!
Q6. What is the difference in people?
- Hwajung : Germans like to speak. They love discuss. In Korea, I often experienced negativity when discussing,
opinions with people who disagree with me. However, Germans respect my opinion. I have been interested in the
rights of women and welfare after I discussed those topics.
Q7. What is your most memorable experience in Germany?
- Hwajung : There are red roads in Germany. At first, I walked on them not knowing the roads were for bikes. Then,
one old man shouted at me “ Wir sind in Detuschland (we are in Germany now)” while riding his bike. How embar-
rassing! Don’t forget to avoid the red roads!
- Hongsick : My most memorable experience is the time when I went to cheer 2016 Euro quarterfinals. As many
Germans are big fans of soccer, match day is almost like a festival. In Europe, they cheer for the Europa Cup as
much as they would the World Cup. That way, the level of cheering was much higher since Germans view Italy as
a rival. There were 6 huge screens in Berlin Brandenburg so people could cheer them on. It is my best soccer
game ever. At last, the German team succeeded in the shootout. We shouted until our voices are gone and we had
a huge party.
Q8. What is most hardest thing you have experienced?
- Hongsick : It is too hard to choose just one! The whole move was difficult at first. I did not have any friends and I
didn’t go through an agency to studying abroad, so I had many problems like getting a home, information about
schools and a visa. I especially struggled to find a home. I sent about hundred letters but I got just two answers.
However, it was just a reply. I had an interview with them, and it took quite a bit of time to get home owner’s accept-
ance. Getting a home as a foreigner is almost impossible because of the uncertainty on many sides like finances. I
saw many cases of people living in expensive houses unwillingly or just waiting in hotel rooms.
Q9. Please tell me about your most meaningful achievement.
- Hwajung : I didn't expect to enter any competitions. I heard about a competition named Jugend Musiziert through
my teacher, and I decided to enter. I was worried because I had an exam at that time, but the competition is held
triennially. Surprisingly, I won first prize and entered the next competition. Then, I won the first prize again. I was so
excited, because the judge admited to enjoying my music. I have another competition Bundeswettberwerd. I will do
my best!
