factors, such as preparation of balanced
smart city policies, concepts, and perform-
ance metrics. As the status of a Smart City
by local governments is not yet identified,
there is a long way to go before the pre-
cise diagnosis of problems and solutions
for them come out step by step. However,
if accurate diagnosis of problems and so-
lutions are put into place, it is expected
that implement of smart cities will appear
to be more specific than they are now.
Before the Smart City craze erupted in
South Korea, the king of Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, unveiled a Dubai Smart City Project
earlier in 2013, which aims to turn the country into one of the top cities in the world. Not only Dubai, but
also many other countries around the world are now working to build smart cities. Results of the 2017
Smart City Index, released last November by the EasyPark Group of Sweden, showed that Copenhagen
was ranked first, Singapore was ranked second, Stockholm ranked third, Zurich was ranked fourth,
Boston fifth, Tokyo sixth, San Francisco seventh, Amsterdam eighth, Geneva ninth, and Melbourne tenth.
Seoul was ranked second in terms of Internet speed, Wi-Fi deployment, and the distribution rate of smart-
phones, but it ranked 21st in terms of sustainability, including clean energy, smart buildings, waste gen-
eration, and environmental protection
As smart cities imagine a future that will upgrade the quality of our lives, expectations for Smart City are
growing.
