China's science and technology have developed rapidly in recent decades. The Chinese
government is greatly expanding its investment in science and technology, and Chinese
scientists and engineers are globally competitive. Artificial intelligence technology, one of
China's major scientific and technological fields, is rapidly developing and has a leading
position in speech recognition, face recognition, autonomous vehicles, and robots. China
is not only the world's largest automobile market but also the largest automobile producer.
Chinese automotive companies are investing in new technologies such as electric vehicles,
autonomous driving, and connected cars, which are enhancing the competitiveness of
China's automotive industry.
Among them, according to recent reports, fully autonomous taxis,
known as robotaxis, are expected to undergo pilot operations
in Wuhan and Chongqing, China, without drivers. According to a
Bloomberg report, this is the first time China has officially granted
permission for the operation of 'driverless taxis.' Previously, the
autonomous driving company AutoX started a pilot service for
unmanned robotaxis in Shenzhen, but it was reported that they
did not receive official operation permission from the Shenzhen
city authorities.
