It is surprising to think that it took two hundred thousand years to make an
algorithm called a human and took only a few years to make these artificial
algorithms. How long would it take algorithms to know us better than ourselves?
And what would happen when the algorithms knew us perfectly?
YouTube’s algorithm puts our favorite videos on the first screen when we click on
the YouTube homepage. If the algorithm continues development and knows the
exact video that we want to watch, we don’t have to choose videos and just let
the algorithm play the video when we visit YouTube. Let’s expand the space from
YouTube to our society. If an algorithm is developed enough to know everything
about each of us such as what we like, what we hate, what we scare, what we
feel delicious and what politician we will choose, we wouldn’t have to choose
a politician ourselves and just let the algorithm elect the politician you want to
choose.
Can’t you believe our algorithm will know us better than ourselves? It is not a big
deal, it is natural. Humans have a bad memory, and their choice depends on the
day’s feeling, the weather and what they did before they chose. But algorithms
don’t forget, and they can’t make mistakes because of the day’s weather or
feelings.
We already believe in algorithms more than ourselves. For example, Let’s say we
are diabetics and wear smart watches that analyze our health condition through
our pulse and components of the blood, such as blood sugar. Although we feel
good when we get up in the morning, if the watch said, “Your blood sugar level is
high, get an insulin shot.”, we would get an insulin shot. Because the algorithm
is more accurate than us. We already believe algorithms choices and judgments
more than ours.
“Believe algorithms, not you.” In the first paragraph of this article, it is written that
we believed in gods more than us, because they are smarter and more accurate.
In the 21st century, we watch the creation of new religions that people believe in
more than themselves.
