-Why should a liberal arts students learn math and coding?
This is an era where you can’t survive if you don’t know math and coding. In addition, statistics
show that jobs that use math have higher salaries. The digital divide is becoming a reality. The
current employment rate in the humanities is disastrous. Even when comparing employment with
data, there is significant difference from science and engineering. Even in the fields that don’t
require technology, science degrees are preferred. So liberal arts students are obsessed with
law schools, exams, and civil service exams regardless of their majors. But if they learn coding,
they can choose various careers. Psychology, sociology and Korean literature all apply coding
and AI, resulting in great research results. Typical examples are AI and biology. AI is what makes
machines like humans. But currently, humans are being pushed aside. The reason is that a
person who majors humanities is not the owner of AI. If we are to make AI work more for humans,
humanists must make it. In order to do that, they have to learn math and coding.
In order to become talented people who cross natural sciences and
humanities, we should develop math and coding skills alongside foreign
language skills.
