Department of Economics
I would like to introduce the department of economics at Korea University. The department of
economics studies first 'Thinking and Expression', 'Academic English' as common liberal arts and
'Quantitative thinking' or 'Science and Technology' as core liberal arts. Because it is necessary
to understand economics after liberal arts, the students in the department of economics study
Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, and Statistical analysis of the economy to understand and
analyze economy in many ways.

Q. What part of the major courses and classes in the department of
economics is the most interesting?
A. It's the economic mathematics, it would be easy to consider it as
the language and foundation of economics. As it uses graphs and
equations to arrive at clear conclusions, I could understand at a
high level principles of economics that might be hard to understand.
Q. Could you share a difficulty you faced while carrying out research
or projects related to economics? How did you overcome those
situations?
A. was challenged in understanding concepts like tree-dimensional

graphs while pursuing my studies. It was not something I learned during high school. Generally,
I replaced new equations with what I already knew or sometimes approached my professor to
make clear when I tried to understand the new concepts.
Q. Do you have any recommendations for resources or study methods to help enhancing the
knowledge in economics based on your experience?
A. To enhance your economics knowledge effectively, I recommend looking into an advanced study
of differentiation and integration which are often applied to various economic topics. Even
though studying advanced differentiation might challenging due to the high school education
curriculum, understanding the concepts of differentiation and integration in the curriculum
would directly help you study in economics future.
Q. Based on your experience, could you give one piece of advice to students majoring in
economics?
A. When studying economics, you will encounter unfamiliar terms and have a hard time to
understand them. However, I think if you can overcome the challenges, you will feel a greater
sense of accomplishment. I hope you overcome these obstacles wisely.
